From the tranquility of Chef Boutonne, you can easily visit some of the most fascinating tourist spots in France, all within about 50 miles in the car.
The Marais Poitevin (Green Venice) is a Regional Park which encompasses a vast area of marshland inhabited by numerous rare species of wildlife. It may be visited by foot, by bike or by boat, from which you may see part of the extensive canal system, enjoying a picnic on your journey.
Cognac will reveal the secrets of the famous spirit on visiting the well-known names of Hennessey, Martell or Remey Martin. There’s also Courvoisier at Jarnac, nearby.
Futuroscope – the Park of the Moving Image at Poitiers, gives a packed day out to even the most energetic families !
The ports, forts islands and beaches of the nearby coastline have something for everyone, including Fort Boyard, La Rochelle, Rochefort, Royan, Ile d’Oléron and Ile de Ré. here you will find rich veins of maritime history mixed with traditional seaside holiday fun, everything from sophisticated seafood restaurants to evening street theatre and boat trips.
Oradour-sur-Glane will give you one of the saddest but most fascinating visits of your life. It’s a small town whose inhabitants, except five were wiped out in one day of world war II? now preserved as a National Monument.
La Vallée Des Singes (Monkey Valley) I personally would like to recommend this trip I enjoyed the day as much as my children. Numerous species of primates beautifully displayed in natural surroundings.
